Information about Advertising within HIPs
Please note that the Community for Local Government have sent a reminder to all HIP providers stating that the HIP they provide should not include any information advertising or marketing goods or services.
Such information must not be included in the HIP by the responsible person at his request or with his permission. This includes advertising services offered by the HIP provider or selling agent on the pack cover etc.
The objective is to ensure that consumers receive only official, objective information as part of the pack, and do not receive advertising or marketing information about services that they might believe are officially endorsed, or feel pressured to accept.
The only exception to this prohibition is advertising material that already forms part of a required or authorised document. In other words, where a HIP document happens to include such material the HIP provider or selling agent are not obliged to blank out the offending material before including the document in the HIP.
