I think you should ask about the quality of the responses of all who supplied quotes, not just the winning one (if any), because receiving a load of rubbish from them could reflect badly on you.
I have recently appointed Jane Liles, whom I heard of through you.
I am still waiting for responses from the others: they submitted quotes of varying degrees of usefulness and none other than Jane Liles responded to my queries. Most had not understood what they were quoting for, and had simply provided pro forma quotes, eg listing stamp duty when for a remortgage such as ours none is due, or getting the costs of items which are fixed wrong. We could not select a solicitor on the basis of the information we received. Also of course, being ignored is hardly likely to inspire confidence. One, I can't remember whether it was Hanover or ELC, submitted a quote that was so bad I didn't bother to query it; the other never replied, and John Pugh at Lambert Pugh said that he would be able to offer me a better price than we received automatically through you, but never did.
