Chartered Building Surveyor
In 1976 I became a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors ( R.I.C.S. ). In 1978, I moved to West Wales, setting up my own Building Surveying business the following year.
In the interim I have worked for private and commercial customers, including local authorities, Welsh Water and the Employment Agency. I have been involved with the Welsh House Condition Survey on two occasions. I am Vice Chairman of the Local association of the R.I.C.S. and an active member of the Saundersfoot Sailing Club (when time permits). My wife, who is also a Chartered Surveyor, provides support and advise. I have technical and administrative support, allowing me to concentrate on the survey and other professional work.
Through the design and management of many building projects, I have developed an understanding of the nature of building defects. This knowledge provides a firm foundation for assessing property condition and the need for repair. I follow nationally accepted benchmark standards in the method of inspecting and reporting on housing defects. I aim to provide easily understood reports, to help customers make a balanced assessment of a potential purchase. I have satisfied independent assessors of my level of competence in survey work. I keep up to date with changes in legislation, new techniques and materials.
I can offer customers either the Building Survey (tailored to their needs) or Home Buyer Survey and Valuation (with or without additional services). I am pleased to discuss which type of report is appropriate for a particular property and the customer's requirements. I am presently training as a Home Inspector, in readiness for the advent of the Home Condition Report in June 2007.
