Will I get charged for changing estate agents?

I’m not satisfied with the work my current estate agent has provided, I’m thinking of just walking away but want to know if I’ll still be liable to pay their fees by doing so.

Estate agents normally draw up agreements stating the fees they charge and any allowances they’ll make so read this agreement very carefully. This would normally mean if they hadn’t sold your house after ‘X’ amount of time (typically eight weeks) you would be free to walk away.

It depends how long you have been with your current estate agent and how much, or how little work you think they have done. You have to bear in mind that they may have already spent money on advertising your house such as placing an advert in your local press.

We would suggest expressing your concerns to your estate agent directly. If you only have a short period left then it’s probably worth waiting, otherwise you’ll more than likely still have to pay for the work which has been done.
