Cutting the cost of moving house
Do you have any tips on cutting the costs of moving house? I’ve had to move home every year for about 5 years and it really adds up, what with delayed deposit returns, moving vans, packing supplies and other associated moving costs. My budget gets quickly eaten up and I'd quite like to get through a house move with money left over to spend on my new property.

Answer: Yes, the cost of moving house adds up but our latest research shows that it is cheaper to move in 2010 than in 2009 or even 1999! Use a comparison site so you can get handfuls of moving quotes as a starting point. Be careful about false economies - a removals firm can do your packing and will therefore save stuff from getting broken. Having your own survey means you may be able to negotiate off the asking price if it turns up something you didn't expect. There are a number of useful tips you can follow to cut the costs of moving house - sometimes you have to think outside the box slightly, such as selling your unwanted possessions to recoup expenses. It's also worth checking to see if you can improve the value of your property, for example by improving its curbside appeal, to increase the asking price.
