I am currently living in Bahrain and am thinking about buying an apartment in Edinburgh – for holidays and for when we eventually move back to Edinburgh.  Can you advise whether I can do this?  Are there any risks?   Apart from the usual.  Are there any other potential problems with buying property in the UK while living overseas?

There are no particular risks I can think of, other than the usual as you say. Have you got someone who knows the area who could do it for you or perhaps the best option would be to go to a home search agent who could undertake the search on your behalf.
