Buying a derelict property

I have just found a derelict property which to my knowledge has been empty for over 10 years (probably more). Land registry has no records of the property, so I would like to know what the 'legal' procedure to take ownership for such a property. I have seen many sites selling 'packs' which say they will 'show the way' but I'm not convinced they will land more of a scam to take money of you. I just want to know is it legally possible or not and if so how.

I'm not aware of the packs you refer to. I would try to pursue this through the Land Registry.
