How do I find a local surveyor

I am buying a house privately which is approximately 10 years old.  I do not need a mortgage but need advice on whether I should still have a survey done on the property and how I go about doing this as I am moving some 300 miles away.  My solicitor says they do not arrange this.

Use reallymoving.com to find a local surveyor. Check they have experience of the road and location and ask them for proof of this. Make sure they are used to and regularly do mortgage valuations for lenders and surveys in the road and location.

Ensure that when they do the valuation for you they are aware that it is your money you are paying and not a lenders and you will need them to be very aware of their duty of care to you in this regard.

From what you have said, you probably don’t need a costly full structural survey…but take their advice.
