My family and I are moving into the London area. Although we are down sizing, we still have several lorries full of belongings to get into the new flat. The area we are moving to has very little parking and what is available is not near the service entrance to the block. Unfortunately the access area to the flats, the movers have to use, has very strict parking regulations. However, a neighbour says we can apply for parking permits for the lorries. Please could you give me any information on what type of permits I need and how do I actually apply for them?

Parking and access arrangements can be difficult to arrange and time consuming. I would advise that you use a removals company who are members of a trade association who will offer a bespoke removals service to cover all aspects of the move, including gaining permits for parking. They will be used to liaising with local authorities and building management companies to enable safe parking and access with the necessary legislation to and from properties.
The resident can also apply for permits. Basically the removal vehicle's registration needs to be registered with the local transport office. The local authorities need to be informed of the date and how long the removals vehicle will require access. Always ask for longer than planned to cover any over delays. This will give you flexibility and doesn't cost any extra. Ask the remover for an accurate estimate on how long the job will take.
