Find out how the charities DEBRA and Depaul are supporting people in need and how your house move can help them continue their support for years to come.

Here at reallymoving.com our goal is to help people - whether that’s helping you save money, or working with charities for a fantastic cause. DEBRA and Depaul are two of those charities and we couldn’t be happier to have the chance to work alongside them.

Debra

Founded in 1978 by Phyllis Hilton and named after her daughter, DEBRA is the national charity that supports individuals and families affected by Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) – a painful genetic skin blistering condition which, in the worst cases, can be fatal.

DEBRA funds their research by reselling clothes, furniture, books, toys, games and DVDs that have been donated to them by the public. They have both online and offline stores which you can find out about by clicking here.

Depaul

Depaul’s goal is to make sure that everyone has a place that they can call home and have been helping disadvantaged young people for 27 years, all over the UK. Depaul’s Nightstop program helps to prevent homelessness by providing young people with a warm bed in the homes of approved volunteers.
Reallymoving.com hosted a ‘sleepout’ fundraiser where we slept on the streets to raise money and help create a database for Nightstop program, making it easier for young people to find a placement.

Nightstop isn’t the only way that Depaul is helping disadvantaged young people, as they have also opened a box store to help fund their efforts. The Depaul Box Company sells cardboard boxes in bulk and the profits go toward providing young people with a home.

How can you make a difference?

Whether your sofa is too big or your chairs don’t match the new floors, when you’re moving to a new house, there are always a few things you’ll leave behind. Instead of throwing them away or selling them on, why not donate them to a good cause? You’ll be saving money on your move by taking less with you (you’re charged by square footage) and you’ll be making a difference. DEBRA will even pick up the furniture for you!

For the things that you’re taking with you, you can stock up on moving boxes from The Depaul Box Company. Not only will you have enough boxes to move to your new home, you’ll also be donating money to help a young person find a home of their own.

We look forward to continuing to work with these two fantastic causes and hope that you will join us in supporting them for years to come.
