How to use these maps

Moves to: shows which postcode areas people come from when moving to each UK postcode area
  • Select the postcode area you’re interested in either from the pull-down list, or by clicking on the map
  • The area selected is highlighted in pink
  • The areas with the highest number of movers to the selected postcode are shaded in dark green, the shading gets lighter for areas with fewer movers to that area.
  • You can see the exact percentage of movers to the selected area that come from each postcode by hovering the cursor over the area, but not clicking.

Regional attractiveness: shows which postcodes have a higher number of people moving to it than from it

  • This map shows the number of people moving to each postcode area as a percentage of the number of people moving from it.
  • The highest percentages, which therefore appear to have more people moving in than moving away, are shown in red: the darker the red, the higher the net number of people moving in.
  • Areas where there are more people moving away than moving in are shown in blue: the darker the blue the higher the net number of people moving away.

Regional stickiness: shows what proportion of movers from each postcodes choose to stay in that postcode

  • This map shows the number of moves from each postcode area that are to a destination within the same area, as a percentage of the total moves from that postcode.
  • The areas where most moves from the area remain in the area are shaded red.
  • Areas where a minority of movers remain in the area are shaded blue
