Home Affordability Map

Want to know where you can afford to buy a house in the UK or your local area? Using reallymoving and Land Registry data, our home affordability map can help you pinpoint where you can afford to buy a property, based on your budget and how many bedrooms you need.

How does it work?

To find out which areas in the UK offer the most affordable housing for you, simply select the number of bedrooms you need and adjust the budget slider to your maximum price point. The greener the area, the more homes are available that match your criteria.

For example, if you're looking for affordable housing in London and the map shows dark red, you might find that moving the map further out reveals more homes within your budget. You may even discover locations you hadn’t considered before.

We want to help you make the best choices when it comes to your property purchase, to save you time and money!

How do we collect this data?

Using Land Registry data (2024 HM Land Registry data for England and Wales, 2023 Land Register of Scotland data for Scotland), we calculate the average property price in each district. We then use our internal data, combined with housing stock data from the most recent census, to get the average property price by property size within each district. Using the methods described in the RIETI Discussion Paper, we then turn the average property price into information about what percentage of properties will be within the budget you provide.

Districts with fewer than 100 properties of a given size are marked as “limited data,” as only one or two homes may be available at a time.

Due to limited public data, affordability estimates in Northern Ireland are based solely on reallymoving's internal data.
