Rochester is a small historic city of roughly 30,000 people situated on the River Medway in Kent. Rochester however, is probably most famous as it the setting (although often in a fictionalised form) for many of Charles Dickens’s novels, including Pickwick Papers and Great Expectations. Charles Dickens spent several years living near Rochester and the Guildhall Museum has a permanent exhibition dedicated to the author.
