The report was drafted with a very basic level of detail, some poor quality pictures and quite a few ambiguities. After following up with at least 10 questions, the responses were sent by email and there was no offer of a follow-up telephone call to ensure I was satisfied. Also the particular areas highlighted for attention (an old extension) was not included in the original report. For this reason, I would not recommend as the detail was similar to a home buyers survey.

We are sorry to hear you were not satisfied with the Building Survey. In particular that you felt the report was not detailed enough. Our Building Surveys are much more detailed than a Homebuyer Report and many of our clients comment that we provide a lot more detail than they were expecting. We believe this comment is due to the information given about the rear extension. The degree of detail you were expecting however could not be provided without pulling the property apart, as this part of the building had external render and internal plaster concealing the construction. An intrusive survey is beyond the scope of a RICS Building Survey. We agree that some of the external photos are quite dark. This was due to the very bright sunlight on the morning of the survey that caused shadows in the photos of the roof and chimney stack. This did not prevent us from spotting numerous defects in these areas however. You emailed us some questions you had about your report and we answered these by email in return. You then replied that we had clarified most of your concerns but asked for further explanation on two points, which we again provided by email in return. We had no further correspondence from you so assumed you were satisfied with our responses. If at any point during our service you had asked to speak to us directly by telephone, we would have been happy to call you or you could have called us. We want our clients to be fully satisfied with the service we provide.
