Gold Crest Chartered Surveyors began as a father and son team in 2010, providing RICS HomeBuyer Reports, Building Surveys and Mortgage Valuations.

They had a small team covering the East Midlands from their base in between Nottingham and Derby. For many years, they mainly carried out surveys and valuations, with only one administrator, who is still with the firm today. The team has grown significantly, whilst retaining the values and philosophy of when the company was young. Our company slogan is simple: we aim to provide the best possible customer service. This mantra has been instilled throughout the team, which has grown to 20 strong: 12 surveyors and 7 administrators.

All of our profits have been invested back into the company, focusing on systems and training, with the ultimate aim of improving the level of customer service, and improving efficiency of the report turnaround.

We are committed to providing the highest possible standards, and we’re proud of our 5* rating on Trustpilot, which has been maintained over the last 2 years. This rating has been achieved by the administration staff and surveyors, whose dedication and commitment to providing a great service makes the directors proud to be part of this fantastic team. On first impressions, the survey looked detailed and comprehensive, a 42 page report with photos. However, when going through it in a bit more detail, it became apparent that some of it had been done “lazily”. There were many “likely problems” states probably so they don’t get sued, but the survey didn’t tell us definitively if we had them which left us very confused, e.g they did not lift the drain lid because it was “too heavy” and they could not assess the loft timbers properly because of “limitations which prevented safe access” I.e. there was stuff in the way and the surveyor did not discuss with the vendors to move it beforehand. I’ve now had to get another surveyor that has liaised with the vendor to move their stuff out of the way prior to the survey date. This is what goldcrest should’ve done but they didn’t.

Requested to speak to the surveyor on two different occasions. Not only did this not happen but the organisation did not have the courtesy to call and rearrange.

Booking process was smooth and report delivered on time but aftercare needs to improve. The average purchaser of the report is not going to be well versed with the observations of the surveyors report so the Company should follow up the report by a call rather than leave this as an optional service. I had to call twice to get hold of the surveyor to explain the findings of the report. The other item which didn’t feel seamless to me was that I had no sense of estimated costs to fix so all the report did was hand me a problem not a solution. UPDATE: Since submitting this review, Gold Crest have been in touch to go through my feedback and have compensated me for my inconvenience. I have been advised the call back is included with the full building survey not home buyers report but have recommended they include this going forward. Clearly they want to put things right and with this in mind I would try them out again, in the hope of a better service.
